At JBFDT, all training is conducted by NRA Training Counselors and Certified Instructors. We adhere to proven NRA course curricula, reflecting our dedication to delivering effective and professional instruction. Our courses are designed to equip you with the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to safely enjoy a lifetime of firearm activities.
We offer a wide range of both NRA-certified and non-NRA courses covering pistol, rifle, and shotgun disciplines, as well as range safety. For those in Maryland, we provide essential training for state-specific requirements. Our Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) course is required for individuals seeking to purchase a regulated firearm (handgun) in the state. Additionally, we offer Maryland Wear and Carry Permit (CCW) renewal training. Many Maryland residents took advantage of the expanded eligibility rules in August 2022 to obtain their CCW permits—when it’s time to renew, we’re here to help, even on short notice.
Our NRA-certified offerings include Basic Pistol, Concealed Carry, Basic Rifle, and Basic Shotgun. Each of these foundational courses introduces shooters to the core principles of safe operation and handling. Topics include firearm parts and nomenclature, types of actions, ammunition selection, clearing malfunctions, cleaning and maintenance, and secure storage practices. The NRA Concealed Carry course meets the training requirements for Maryland CCW applications. We also offer the Range Safety Officer (RSO) course, which prepares you to safely manage range activities and conduct live-fire events.
Looking to take your passion a step further? We offer NRA Instructor-level courses for those who want to teach and guide others. Upon successful completion, you’ll be qualified to teach the NRA Basic course in that discipline. Instructor-level training is available for Pistol, Concealed Carry, Rifle, Shotgun, and Chief Range Safety Officer. Completion of the Pistol or CCW Instructor courses also makes you eligible to apply for the Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructor Certificate (QHIC), allowing you to teach both the Maryland HQL and Maryland CCW classes.
